Blind woman describes gouging out her own eyes after taking crystal meth
12 March, 2018, 05:18
A woman is asking for help through a GoFundMe page after she gouged out her own eyeballs while high on meth because she thought it would bring her closer to God, according to a report. "Thankfully, as time progresses, with much support and her therapy, we can help her to understand that things that she was seeing and thinking at that time, were not true or real".
Muthart clawed her eyes out on February 6, in front of residents in Anderson, South Carolina outside a church.
The horrific meth trip left her permanently blind and in the hospital and psychiatric facility for almost a month.
She continued: "He later said, when he found me, that I was holding my eyeballs in my hands". It took a team of deputies to hold her town. Muthart is now completely blind, and was reportedly in a drug-induced hallucination at the time. "I'm thankful, it's a awful thing, but I'm still thankful because God spared her life".
"I thought everything would end abruptly, and everyone would die, if I didn't tear out my eyes immediately", she told Cosmopolian.
"It made the world darker, and took everything I believed in and distorted them to make me go down the path to pulling out my eyes". I think it makes her feel better somehow. And I was glad to do it because I've always had a big heart and nobody's ever giving me that love back, ' she said.
She felt she had to sacrifice herself so no-one else in the world would be hurt. I told the pastor who showed up, "Pray for me, I want to see the light, pray for me"'. She moved out of the family home and started buying methamphetamine. Doctors believe the meth may have been laced with another chemical.
'Life's more attractive now, life's more lovely than it was being on drugs. "It is a terrible world to live in", Muthart told PEOPLE. "I don't know how I came to that conclusion, but I felt it was, without doubt, the right, rational thing to do immediately". Not down to a tee, but I know what my mom's house looks like, ' she said learning to adapt to her new sensory abilities.
So she turned to the Bible, and was convinced that the meth would help her get closer to God. She said: "That was a struggle".
Doctors excised the remains of her eyes to preserve her optic nerves and prevent infection, she said.
While Muthart later got another jobs, she started experimenting with meth in August, to the point that she sometimes picked at her face while tripping on meth. After losing her job and realizing the dangers of using the drug, she tried to "steer clear of meth".
Kaylee says she first became addicted to meth after a co-worker pressured her into trying it and despite stopping using it, after a short spell she was back on the drug. She is adjusting to her surroundings but overall she's doing well.
She felt betrayed by the friend she was smoking with, and quit her job.
Two days later, she woke up in the hospital, where she stayed for a week. She took a video recording of her behavior on it.
She said: "I can't even explain that feeling when I found out".
"I'd rather be blind than dependent on drugs", she said. She fought so hard that her wrists hurt for weeks. She is also attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings and has gone to the Commission for the Blind to learn about living without eyesight.
"I " m able to be Kaylee again. But I know the drugs numbed the pain. I'm Kaylee Jean Muthart, just like I was 10 years ago.
"That 's just the kind of person she is".
