Trump arrived in the South Korean capital Friday to serve as the honorary leader of the USA delegation at the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

Among those she met: Garrett Hines, a former US bobsledder and Army reservist.

Earlier this week, the USA government said Pence had been set to meet North Korean officials during his visit to South Korea, but that the North Korean side canceled at the last minute.

Ivanka Trump, who had dinner with South Korean President Moon Jae-in after she arrived on Friday, is expected to watch the big air, curling and speed skating events during her visit.

She added that the goal of the trip was also to "reaffirm our commitment to our maximum pressure campaign to ensure that the Korean Peninsula is denuclearized", saying the group would discuss their "joint values and strategic cooperation as partners and allies".

Trump responded by pushing for joint efforts by the US and South Korea to apply maximum pressure on North Korea, Yoon said.

North Korea's delegation at the closing ceremony will be headed by top general Kim Yong Chol, who is widely blamed for a series of attacks against the South including the 2010 sinking of a warship, with the loss of 46 lives.

She also delivered an invitation from her brother for Moon to visit North Korea.

Kim is a vice-chairman of the North's ruling Workers' Party Central Committee, and also the head of the North Korean ruling party's United Front Department, the body responsible for inter-Korean affairs.

US Vice-President Mike Pence awkwardly sat nearly directly in front of Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, at the Olympics opening ceremony, where athletes from the two Koreas marched together.

The Pyeongchang Olympics have seen a charm offensive by the North, which sent leader Kim Jong Un's sister to the opening ceremony as it seeks to loosen sanctions against it and weaken the alliance between Seoul and Washington. -South Korea relations with Moon, according to the report.
