Guerrero's choice - which, unlike Ryan's, required and received approval of the Hall of Fame - may still bug some folks in that he played far more games and had greater success with the Expos than with the Angels. Guerrero spent more time in Montreal, leading many to think he would sport an Expos cap.

After getting the Hall of Fame news Wednesday, Guerrero told reporters he would wait until Thursday to make a decision about his cap.

Guerrero will be the first player in the Hall of Fame depicted on his plaque with an Angels hat.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Guerrero played 16 seasons in the Major League Baseball, starting his career playing in Montreal from 1996 to 2003. He joined the Anaheim Angels as a free agent in 2004 and spent six seasons with them, including their rebranding as the Los Angeles Angels.

Guerrero was an eight-time victor of the Silver Slugger Award as the best offensive player at his position and appeared in nine all-star games.

Guerrero hit 34 or more home runs and drove in 100 or more runs each season between 1998 and 2002 for Montreal, topping out with 44 homers in 2000 and 131 RBI the year before. Gary Carter, Andre Dawson and Tim Raines have Montreal hats on their Hall plaques. "I thought about this for a long time because the Canadian people mean a whole lot to me, but the Angels mean a lot, too".

An outfielder for most of his career, Guerrero finished up as a designated hitter.

He had a career batting average of.318, belting 449 home runs and collecting 1,496 RBIs.

Guerrero also thanked the Texas Rangers, with whom he appeared in his only World Series back in 2010, and the Orioles "who allowed me to play one more year" in 2011.

Guerrero will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 29, along with Chipper Jones, Jim Thome - both elected in their first year of eligibility - and Trevor Hoffman.
