The HomePod, Apple's voice-activated speaker with Siri built-in finally has a release date: February 9.

The screenshots suggest that there won't be a dedicated HomePod app, but instead you'll be able to change the settings for the speaker from within the Apple Home app for iOS.

The always-on voice functionality of other smart speakers now on the market, like the Amazon Echo Dot, have been met with criticism due to privacy concerns.

According to Apple Insider, the leak that was first shared by French website iGeneration gives a detailed look at the HomePod settings.

The HomePod was revealed last summer with a promised launch before the end of 2017, but Apple delayed the product in December, saying that "we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers".

Apple says the HomePod will gain multi-room audio through a free updated scheduled for release later this year.

Tucked inside its round mesh fabric design are seven beamforming tweeters that precisely focus the sound.

A $10 per month Apple Music subscription is also required to request music through HomePod.

"HomePod is a magical new music experience from Apple. It brings advanced audio technologies like beam-forming tweeters, a high-excursion woofer and automatic spatial awareness, together with the entire Apple Music catalogue and the latest Siri intelligence, in a simple, attractive design that is so much fun to use", said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing on the news of the release date.

"We're so excited for people to get HomePod into their homes, apartments and businesses to hear it for themselves". It's gonna blow them away. It'll then arrive in France and Germany sometime this spring.
