With a number of celebrities in Hollywood raising their voice against sexual harassment in the industry, the Producer's Guild of America (PGA) has released a set of guidelines to prevent and deal with sexual harassment on film sets.

The announcement was made by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) on the weekend, following a meeting last week where board members unanimously approved strict guidelines to define a hostile work environment, identify sexual harassment, and clarify misconceptions about sexual harassment.

The guidelines are the product of a task force asked to research and propose solutions to sexual misconduct following a flood of accusations that started with revelations about Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. The voluntary organization hopes that the steps taken will help safeguard potential victims and for witnesses to report any incidents.

The guidelines, which were released on Friday ahead of Saturday's PGA Awards, recommend that every production "provides in-person anti-sexual harassment training for all members of the cast and crew". Weinstein has been accused of holding meetings in hotel rooms, in which women accuse him of misconduct. Weinstein has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone. He was expelled from the group a year ago.

The new guidelines are especially important for independent productions that are not being done at a movie or TV studio with a human resources department, McCreary said in an interview. "You don't want people to be insensitive anymore".

The recommendations also note that reports of sexual harassment are to be listened to with attention and empathy, "while bearing in mind that the report itself does not predetermine guilt".
