The goals also made Olunga go down in the annals of history books, as he became the first ever Kenyan to claim a hat-trick in the La Liga.They were Olunga's first goals in the Spanish La Liga since he joined the club at the beginning of the term.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga on Saturday January 13 set a new record after scoring a hat-trick in Spanish La Liga match between Girona FC's and Las Palmas, a performance that makes him the first Kenyan to have scored in La Liga and the first Girona player to score a hat-trick in the top tier competition.

Olunga has played a meagre 136 minutes in five games and the three goals against Paco Jemez's are all he has so far.

The Kenya global turned in a Johan Mojica cross to double Girona's lead, and he was then involved in the build-up to Borja Garcia's goal.

Olunga scored a hat trick after coming off the bench in Girona FC's 6-0 demolition of Las Palmas on Saturday in a stunning second half display.

He completed his remarkable hat-trick nine minutes later when he was in the right place at the right time to get to the rebound inside the box and gleefully rifle the ball low inside the left post and seal the win.

Girona have now moved joint nineth with Gatefe on 26 points, though the latter have a superior goal advantage. With the passage of minutes, however, the forces were balanced until Javi Castellano committed a penalty on Portu.

Olunga came on to replace Stuani.
