She was charged in an Israeli military court Monday with several offences, including assault, after a video of her kicking and slapping two Israeli soldiers in the West Bank went viral. "They are being tried as adults, they have no benefit of being children, their detention is nearly automatically being defended by the military courts".

The three were filmed slapping and harassing the soldiers in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh in an apparent attempt to provoke a violent response.

She was indicted on assault changes, among others, on Tuesday along with her cousin Noor, 20, and mother Nariman. The soldiers then informed the family that Ahed was being arrested, without giving any reasons. "They make similar claims every time they do this".

Ahed and her mother have been ordered to remain in custody until at least January 8, when another hearing will be held.

Israel's occupation but Israelis accuse her family of using her as a pawn in staged provocations.

Ahed Tamimi is well-known across Palestine and the Arab world for videos of her, since her childhood, defiantly resisting Israeli soldiers who clash with Palestinians in her village almost every week.

"During the village's protests, Israeli forces would often scream Ahed's name and shout curses at her. 'Look!" The video appears to have been filmed next to the Tamimi house in Nabi Saleh near Ramallah.

According to a tally by Ma'an news agency Tamimi was the 14th Palestinian to have been killed by Israel since U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel last month, sparking widespread protests across the West Bank, gaza, and East jerusalem. Issa Qaraqe of the Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission stated that approximately half of those detained, like Ahed, Abdul-Khalik Burnat and Fawzi al-Junaidi, are children.

"Since Ahed became kind of a symbol of resistance, they wanted to find a way to keep her in detention for a long period of time", she told AFP. Arrested minors are subjected to physical and mental abuse.
