Apple recently admitted that it has been throttling the performance of certain iPhones with older batteries to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

Alongside any potential legal woes the company may face as a result of the bevvy of lawsuits that soon followed the revelations, the company may also incur a steep financial cost as a direct result of the battery replacement program.

Early in 2018, we will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone's battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.

As year 2018 has arrived, it seems Apple has some new plans for its upcoming large iPhones'.

Ordinarily, iPhone battery replacements cost $139 out of warranty - but following revelations that Apple deliberately slows its phones to extend their life as batteries age, it has offered a cheaper service.

In an apology letter written last week, the technology company announced it would be dropping prices by almost two-thirds for anyone with an iPhone 6 model or later.

Apple has been critized following disclosures that the Cupertino-based tech maker was found slowing down iPhone batteries. For the U.S., Apple is charging $29 for the battery replacement.

That's sparked fury among owners of the iconic phone worldwide - and some legal action - many arguing that had they known‚ they'd have opted to buy new batteries rather than replace their slowed-up phone.

If both numbers are the same, then your iPhone isn't being throttled.

"First and foremost, we have never - and would never - do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades", Apple said, replying to the allegations.

For reference, the clock speed of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus should be at 1.4 GHz, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus at 1.84 GHz, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus at 2.34 GHz, and iPhone SE at 1.84 GHz.

"Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that".
