China and the United States have issued fresh advisories, warning their citizens in Pakistan of possible terrorist attacks and asking them to take appropriate measures for their safety and security.

The Embassy of China in Islamabad on Friday warned Chinese citizens and organisations in Pakistan to be on alert for possible terror attacks on them.

Pakistan's government has promised Beijing that it will deploy troops to secure the economic corridor being built and root out anti-China militants in its north-western tribal areas.

Thousands of Chinese workers are now in Pakistan working on different projects under the $57 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. It urged its citizens to stay inside and avoid crowded places.

Chinese should cooperate with Pakistani police and military and contact the Chinese embassy if necessary, it added.

China has long anxious about disaffected members of its Uighur Muslim minority in its far western region of Xinjiang linking up with militants in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Taliban, sectarian groups linked to al Qaeda and the Islamic State all operate in Baluchistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan and is at the centre of the "Belt and Road" initiative.

China's security concerns overseas have grown along with its global commercial footprint.
