Oreo reaches 0.3% of the Android market in latest distribution chart

Melba Vasquez | 14 November, 2017, 16:20

According to the latest data released by Google, the latest operating system has only reached 0.3 percent of the device.

Google is likely to fix one of the biggest storage issues on its Android devices with a new feature in Android 8.1 Oreo.

The 0.3 percent mark for Android Oreo is an improvement over the 0.2 percent market that the OS version held last month as reported by GSMArena. While Android 8.0 Oreo is steadily making a progress, it isn't as significant yet.

Older Pixel and Nexus devices have been updated while other OEMs are in the very early stages of testing betas and previews. Marshmallow is losing some traction but remains the most used version of Android right now, with 30.9% of the market. This feature is activated when a device runs low on storage space, and this is how it works - after a length of time specified by Android, applications that haven't been used in a while are marked as inactive. The almost two-and-half year old Android 6.0 Marshmallow continues to dominate with 30.9 per cent of Android devices, though it is down from 32 per cent in October. It is followed by Android 5.1 Lollipop at 20.8 percent.

Additionally, back in 2014 Google had only just passed one billion active monthly users, which rose to 1.4 billion by mid-2015, and as of May 2017 stood at two billion. KitKat is at 13.8% and Jelly Bean fell to 6.2%. This includes 2.2 per cent on version 4.1.x, 3.1 per cent of version 4.2.x and 0.9 per cent on version 4.3. Meanwhile, Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread both declined to.5%.
