After its release a bit over a week ago, Apple's iPhone X has already run into a couple of unexpected issues with some units being afflicted by a thin green line on the side of the display as well as impacts to touchscreen reliability when moving into sudden colder temperatures. There's an app for that.

While the iPhone X is getting strong reviews, many fans are not happy about the notch, the big obstructing bezel on the top of the display which houses the cameras, sensors and speaker. Well, sort of. It doesn't actually remove the notch, it just cleverly puts a black border around your wallpaper that the cutout disappears into. Notcho comes with 11 pre-set wallpaper selections, but also offers users the opportunity to create their own custom notch-free wallpaper.

Obviously, it is impossible to remove the notch via software.

As the name suggests, the app allows you to effectively eliminate the notch on the iPhone X by adding a black bar to the top of images that you can then manually assign as wallpapers from the phone's Settings menu. This works best while you're on the home screen and you'll definitely see the notch when you're running an app that supports full screen.

It's somewhat surprising that Apple even approved the app.

"Don't mask or call special attention to key display features".

Why exactly Apple didn't decide Notch Remover breaks any of these rules is unclear, but nonetheless, it is available on the App Store for $0.99 right now.
