On the other hand, TCS, M&M, Sun Pharma, UPL and HPCL advanced 1.76 per cent, 1.30 per cent, 1.14 per cent, 0.67 per cent and 0.37 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 49.30 points or 0.48% at 10,272.45 with 33 components falling.

Investors also awaited consumer and wholesale price inflation data this week for clues to the trajectory of food inflation in the months ahead.

"Domestic investors turned cautious giving more weight to slowdown in IIP to 3.8%, geopolitical tensions in the Middle-East and continued advancement in crude prices".

"Despite significant tax relief in recent GST council meet, expectation of rise in CPI and WPI inflation added to the cautiousness", Nair added. The home currency has opened lower by 21 paise at 65.37 per dollar versus 65.16 Friday.

All the sub-indices of the BSE ended in the red except the IT index, which closed up 19.80 points.
