Flipkart is doubling down on its private label and smartphone business, launching its first "made-for-India" smartphone as part of the Billion private label headed by cofounder Sachin Bansal. The smartphone will go on sale starting from November 15 and will be available in two color variants - Desert Gold and Mystic Black. The smartphone is powered by the popular Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage expandable via MicroSD up to 128GB. Some of the other features teased for the Flipkart's Billion Capture+ smartphone include a full-HD display, rounded edges, and presence of stock Android Nougat.

The Billion Capture+ smartphone runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS out of the box. The dual camera setup consists of one regular RGB sensor and one monochrome sensor. Flipkart, which is the leader in the crucial smartphone category, boasts of key partnerships with top phone brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo and Oppo, all of whom have competing products with Billion. For the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. There is another variant, priced at Rs. 12,999 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Mint had first reported on June 15 that Bansal was developing Billion and that Flipkart may also offer a low-cost smartphone under the brand to compete with the likes of Xiaomi and Micromax. This has a USB Type C charger and Quick Charge with Flipkart promising seven hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging. "The Billion brand's products have always been backed by meticulous data-driven research and insight into Indian customers' needs".

On the design front, Flipkart says the Billion Capture+ has a premium metal body crafted.

There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with which you can unlock the device. The cameras come with dual tone LED flash.

"The features in the "Capture+' too have been derived from deep data-mining of millions of Flipkart customers" reviews".

Flipkart has also revealed that it will be bundling free unlimited cloud photo storage with Capture+, similar to what Google does with the Pixel smartphones. The phone claims to be designed, manufactured and tested in India. From the name, it looks to be a camera phone. "We're sure this customer-centricity will delight Indian smartphone buyers".
