Youssouf Koita dropped at his back, disappointed with his mistake as the final whistle blew and Brazil won the bronze at the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup on Saturday.

Mali goalkeeper Youssouf Koita gifted Alan a goal in the 55th minute against the run of play and then second-half substitute Alberto scored in the 88th minute as Brazil hit their more adventurous opponents on the counter in a boring encounter. However, things haven't gone according to plan and third place is what they will be playing for when they face off at Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, ahead of the big finale. Alan made a run towards the Mali goal before striking a rolling shot at the target. However, a lack of finish and good goalkeeping by Brazil's Gabriel Brazao kept the Eaglets off the scoresheet.

Nonetheless, the three-time champions Brazil ended the tournament in the third position after beginning as the favourites. Skipper Mohamed Camara returned to the first XI after suspension, replacing Oumar Doucoure. Brazil had slightly more possession but Mali attacked more with the action mostly in Brazil half.

In the 16th minute, Brazil's overlapping left back Weverson had a left-footed shot after a fine work by Lincoln but missed the target. Four minutes later, Traore would create space in the middle for Camara, whose powerful shot again went whizzing past the left post of Brazao. In the 40th minute, Victor Bobsin's defensive mistake led to Salam Jiddou taking a fierce shot from inside the box, but Brazao reacted in the nick of time to tip it over.

The second half began with another sprightly move from Mali inside three minutes, with Drame's low cross from the right nearly meeting an unmarked N'Diaye inside the box.

In the second half, Brazil were gifted their opener as Mali goalkeeper Youssouf Koita failed to stop a soft strike from Alan in the 55th minute. With their preferred 4-1-4-1 formation, they used to press with more men when attacking.

Substitute Yuri Alberto secured the win for Brazil two minutes from time. Mali coach Jonas Komla said getting a medal in a tournament like World Cup is a huge incentive. "But we were lucky it went our way", said Brazil coach Carlos Amadeu after the match.

Disappointed that they could not give back the love shown by the crowd with a title, Brazil players like Alan Souza, Lincoln and Paulinho have said that they would give their best in the bronze play-off match as a mark of respect for the faithful spectators.
