But it can still ship the products without the mark if client companies agree, Kobe Steel said. There have been no cancellations as yet, Kobe Steel has said.

Japanese authorities, including Mr Seko's ministry, are conducting safety checks at Kobe Steel's plants after revelations of widespread tampering in the specification of its products.

Despite the lack of JIS certification, Kobe Steel Chairman and President Hiroya Kawasaki said the firm can still make products that match the standards of certified counterparts.

Kobe Steel reported the misconduct to the industry ministry on October 12.

The company said it found that data had been falsified on its cast metals and reducers in the four new cases while it is now confirming whether the data had been falsified in another case.

The JIS certification was removed from copper and copper alloy seamless tubes made at a plant of the subsidiary, Kobelco & Materials Copper Tube Co., in Hadano, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The company is considering dropping the forecast or revising it to take into account the known impact of the scandal, the executive said.

Kobe Steel, the third-biggest steelmaker in Japan, also said it has found a total of four new suspected cases of data tampering at some group companies, including the parent itself.

"There is a possibility for other plants to lose (the) JIS standard", Naotake Fujishiro, director of the worldwide standardization division of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, said. While it is not legally mandated for products to have JIS certification, some firms only offer certified products to assure quality.

Kobe Steel's Hatano copper tube plant southwest of Tokyo has been inspected by a certification company to see whether it has complied with the JIS in terms of quality management systems and product specifications.

As a result of the revocation, it will be no longer able to sell those products with the JIS label.

The move could hurt its business, which has been already affected as some customers are switching orders to competitors.

Global automakers, aircraft companies and other manufacturers have scrambled to identify potential hazards in their products because of the falsification.

On Tuesday, the Japanese government said it had instructed watchdog bodies to consider examining all certified Kobe Steel plants.

Kobe Steel shares, which have fallen almost 40 percent since the scandal broke, closed up 0.9 percent on Tuesday.
