No. 15 Washington State looks to bounce back against Colorado

Washington State downed Colorado, 28-0, Saturday night in the Palouse.

An outstanding defensive effort powered Washington State (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12) on a night when driving rain and just-above-freezing temperatures rendered mounting an offensive attack hard.

Faced with wet and windy conditions in Pullman, WSU relied on a dominant defense that held Colorado to just 174 yards of offense in the 28-0 win. Frankie Luvu had two sacks and two quarterback hurries by Nnamdi Oguayo led the way.

“That was the worst offensive performance weve had since Ive been a coach here, ” Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said. Freshman Sam Noyer replaced him at the start of the second half.

Washington State will look to move up a stop or two in a week where not many teams above them lost.

"We've got talented guys", the coach added. "Offense, they just stopped us". "We got pretty much what we deserved".

The Cougars rushed for 194 yards and quarterback Luke Falk threw for three touchdowns in a 28-0 victory over Colorado on Saturday night.

This season, WSU is averaging almost 381 passing yards per game and 34.4 points per game. It was a very one-sided game, as WSU dominated on both sides of the ball, with quarterback #Luke Falk putting up the points and the defense shutting out Colorado for all 60 minutes of action.

"It's an improvement", head coach Mike Leach said. "I thought Luke did a good job bringing an energy to the (offensive) unit". "We've got to find a way to win those close games". The team averaged 5.5 yards per carry, including 73 yards from Jamal Morrow, 59 yards from James Williams, and an unbelievable 41 yards from Luke Falk.

GAINING GROUND: Colorado running back Phillip Lindsay is five yards shy of 1,000 yards rushing for the season.

On Saturday, the Cougars will also be playing without leading receiver Tavares Martin Jr., who has seven touchdown catches this season but was suspended this week for a violation of team rules.

Washington State remains in control of its fate for the Pac-12 North Division spot in the conference championship game, and at the same time kept hopes for a College Football Playoff berth alive. His initial struggles carried over from the week prior, when Falk threw five interceptions at Cal.
