Cavs' Isaiah Thomas reveals his true feelings about Celtics' Danny Ainge

Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told reporters Wednesday he can sympathize with Isaiah Thomas' feelings of frustration regarding the blockbuster trade that shipped him from the reigning Atlantic Division champions to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It might not be anytime soon, but hopefully Thomas and Ainge are able to reconcile at some point down the road.

While Irving was surely comfortable with the move - he had asked to be traded and ended up on a proven victor - Thomas was confused when he first heard about the star-studded trade. He obviously said some things today. While he claims to hold nothing against organization, he feels very differently towards Celtics general manager Danny Ainge.

It felt like Thomas had developed something special with the city of Boston and with the Celtics fans, and to see him let go so unceremoniously in order to acquire Irving was a surprise to many, Thomas included. I might not ever talk to Danny (Ainge) again. That might not happen. "I'll talk to everybody else", he said. But you guys know how much I love Isaiah.

"But every team in this situation comes out a year or two later and says, 'We made a mistake.' That's what they'll say, too".

Thomas has reason to be upset. I know there is a lot of feelings that go on when these type of things happen.

"That's the hard part of the job", Ainge said at Wednesday's Shamrock Foundation charity golf tournament. "No way around it, I made it worse".

However, that wasn't to be the case, as Thomas was traded by the Celtics to their Eastern Conference rivals as part of the super trade between the two teams involving Kyrie Irving, along with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the rights to the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round draft pick, as well as a 2020 second-round draft pick via the Miami Heat.

Being 5'9, Thomas has had to play with a chip on his shoulder dating back to his days at the University of Washington, but once he gets healthy enough to suit up for the Cavalier, IT may be playing with the biggest chip of all-time resting on his shoulder. Not because he needs to prove it to himself, but because he knows he still needs to prove it to everyone who doubts him.
