Air Force Commandos, 2 Militants Killed in Hajin Shootout

This is the first time Air Force commandos have been killed in an encounter in Kashmir. Two IAF Garud personnel, who were part of the operation for training and experience goal, were fatally injured in the exchange of fire.
Last year, armed rebels had stormed the army base near the border town of Uri in which 18 soldiers were killed.
The Indian Air Force lost two "Garud" commandos in a firefight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday.
According to the intelligence report, more than two dozen terrorists are reportedly active in Bandipora district alone among a total of more than 150 in the four districts of Kashmir.
The IAF said two terrorists, firing indiscriminately, ran towards the position of the Garud commandos, who challenged them and killed the two terrorists.
In the encounter, two terrorists were also gunned down by the Indian security personnel.
Special Operation Group of J&K police and Army were conducting cordon and search operation.
One pistol, a huge quantity of ammunition and two AK-series rifles were recovered from the encounter site.

Sources said that Hajin area has thrown a bigger challenge to security forces as the LeT and Jaish-e-Muhammad outfits have accumulated in the area with effective local support.
Local sources said that all the shops and business establishments are shut while traffic is also off the roads.
According to initial reports, 2-3 terrorists were believed to be trapped in Bandipora's Hajin area.
They were identified as Abu Bakr alias Ali Baba and Nasrullah Mir, son of Nazir Ahmad Mir, resident of Mir Mohalla Hajin. The security forces are going after militants as part of Operation Hunt Down and on the basis of a hit list of terrorists.
