Security sources in Kenya have said that Kenya's opposition leader, Raila Odinga is determined to take Kenya down with him if the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC), declares presidential election results that do not have him declared as the victor of last Tuesday's Presidential election.
Mr. Kenyatta got 54.3 per cent of the vote, ahead of rival Raila Odinga who secured 44.7 per cent, according to election commission figures.
Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta has won Kenya's hotly contested presidential poll, the electoral commission says.
While Kenyatta holds a strong lead with nearly all polling stations counted, supporters of Odinga say an unofficial tally shows he won. In the aftermath of the Garissa University attack in 2015, in which 148 people were killed and another 79 injured, the government revealed that its emergency response team had arrived at the school hours after the attack, and admitted that the United Kingdom had issued a warning to Kenya about a possible attack in Garissa.
In 2013, the veteran opposition leader took his grievances to court and lost.
NASA claimed IEBC had assured them that all their concerns including alleged discrepancies in presidential results would be addressed before the big announcement.
In a speech at Chatham House in 2016, Odinga emphasised that Kenya's electoral body must be transparent in order to enable elections that are not only peaceful, but credible. He witnessed demonstrators chanting "No Raila, no peace", - the rallying cry for Odinga supporters during the 2007 violence - and throwing rocks at police, .
The African Union and East African Community observer missions also called on Kenyans to exercise patience while the results were being announced and not to resort to violence.
And while Chebukati acknowledges that there was an an attempt to hack the country's voting system, he maintained that the attempt failed.
"If there are disputes or disagreements, the Kenyan constitution is very clear on how they are to be addressed".
Odinga had said hackers could have used the identity of a top election official, who was tortured and murdered days before the vote.
"Ours is a pledge that we shall continue with the work that we already have started and rededicate ourselves even more to serving this great nation and our people".
Many observers fear a repeat of the violence after the disputed election 10 years ago when more than 1,100 Kenyans died and 600,000 were displaced.
Hundreds of anti-riot police have been in the streets of the capital, Nairobi, in case of violence, though Kenya has largely been calm. The commission said that verifying and confirming of election returns were ongoing and that they have received over 40,000 form 34As.
He claimed the country's electronic voting system had been hacked and the results were doctored. "And I am certain that there is no single Kenyan who would wish for us to go back to this".
We welcome the statements made by worldwide and domestic missions observing the Kenyan elections, which have contributed to transparency, integrity, and public confidence in the electoral process. Kenyatta, 55, whose father was Kenya's first president after independence from British colonial rule, has not commented on Odinga's claims.
