He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2011 and rather than retreating, went on a farewell tour that dealt with his illness and decline with the same candor he'd addressed his relationship troubles and addiction struggles earlier in his life.

On Tuesday, the country music legend and mellow-voiced Rhinestone Cowboy, who sold millions of albums over a career that spanned decades, died at age 81 after a long battle with the disease.

Playing in a concert with someone he looked up to most-Glen Campbell. Born April 22, 1936, in Billstown, Arkansas, he was the seventh of twelve children.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Campbell and a host of other musicians formed what is fondly known as the Wrecking Crew. He played on several recordings including tracks for Ricky Nelson, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra, and Merle Haggard.

Meanwhile, his fans and followers are encouraged to visit Care Living donation org page in order to share some amount that will benefit those people whom he has shared the help with. Webb also wrote "Galveston" and the iconic "Wichita Lineman".

JACKSON: Of course, it's still devastating because, I mean, he gave me a job when I was 18 years old and pretty much made me a part of the family at that point, you know.

On Tuesday night, Variety published a stirring editorial from a heartbroken Jimmy Webb, who remembered his friend and frequent collaborator Glen Campbell, just hours after the latter's death was announced. His song "I'm Not Going to Miss You" from the movie's soundtrack won a Grammy Award for best country song.

The "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer closed his note with a final message for the "Rhinestone Cowboy".

Speaking to Rolling Stone Country about how her father influenced her career Campbell said, "He wouldn't have a career if people weren't fans of his". Campbell received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Glen's passing comes after he retired from the music industry in 2011 following his Alzheimer's diagnoses, which his daughter Ashley described at the time as "really good" for his health. Two months ago his farewell album was released.

His farewell tour and the accompanying film elicited an emotional outpouring. She said at that time that Campbell was in his final stages of the disease.

Yet even as Campbell's disease progressed, he retained a deep musical fluency.

Campbell was an anomaly, a musician whose technical and emotional approach never felt compromised or false. He could still hit the notes. He also had a total of 80 songs hit various charts, with 29 of them hitting the top ten. "He was told to hang up the guitar and instead he proudly walked out and said, 'This is who I am". It opens with, "I'm still here/ But yet I'm gone".

As a teenager, the precocious Campbell toured with his own band, called Glen Campbell and the Western Wranglers, before heading to Los Angeles in 1960.
